Boost Your e-Commerce Sales with these Product Photography Tips
More and more online stores open everyday, so standing out from the crowds has never been harder. You need to do everything you can to get that competitive edge and build a loyal customer base.
With powerful marketing you should see your visitors increase, however, this means nothing if your conversion rate is low. One of the most effective ways of converting those new visitors to new customers, is having accurate high quality product photography.
With that in mind, we’ve put together some top tips on how to ensure your photos always show your products in the best possible light.
Choose your Background
White or add a splash of colour?
To really show off your product you want to have a neutral white back background. This will ensure that nothing distracts from your product. This is best on your product pages. Often people will support these straight product shots with on model or in context images which gives the consumer a little more information about the size and how it would look in situ.
Our StyleShoot machines automatically cut out your images for you meaning you can place your image on any background you like.
There is also an argument though to add colour to your product image backgrounds in certain parts of your website.
Whilst you want your product to appear as it’s best possible self, you don’t want to mislead consumers. So, when editing your product make sure the shape, size and colour are all correct.
You want your image to be as accurate as possible, even if it doesn’t look as good as it could. Accurate images will help decrease returns and increase return buyers.
Something else to bear in mind is that editing your images inevitably leads to image quality loss meaning the more you edit it the worse quality it becomes.
Know your sizing
Different applications for your mages will require different resolutions.
We always give you the master file, which will be a high resolution PNG, along with the images sized to your specifications. It is very important that you never overwrite the master file as with this image you can create any sized image you like.
On your website you will likely have two or even three different resolutions of an image, a thumbnail, a medium and maybe a high res image for customers to zoom in close on details.
Knowing your required resolutions, as well as your borders from the very start will mean you can get consistent imagery across all your product photography.
Give your product context
Giving your product context is a great way to create imagery that stands out from the crowd. With this you can be more creative and highlight your USPs.
Context also offers more information about the product, including things like information about the size, or fit of the product.
You can do this by showing the product in use or in situation.
Getting perfect product photography is vital to properly showcase your product online. Bad photography will lead to low conversion rates and unhappy customers.
